TUCSON, Ariz. – A Tucson Unified School District committee is developing potential scenarios for school closures, consolidations, and reconfigurations.
The TUSD Reconfiguration Committee met for a seven-hour session on Saturday, Aug. 29, to review critical district and county data.
According to committee documents, members analyzed enrollment trends across both TUSD and Pima County. The group also examined school-by-school enrollment numbers, budget data, space utilization, and facilities data to understand the district’s current landscape.
The committee used several key resources to guide their work, including a strategic presentation, a TUSD analysis, a 2026 profit-loss statement, and the TUSD framework. They also referenced a rubric of guiding principles and information on special programs to draft potential models for the district’s future.
The committee represents a wide range of local stakeholders, including parents, teachers, principals, and community members. Representatives from Ward 1, Ward 2, Ward 5, and Ward 6 joined district representatives, members of the Tucson Education Association, and delegates from South Tucson, the Southern Arizona Leadership Council, and the Communications Workers of America.
The committee is scheduled to hold its next meeting on Sept. 10, 2026. Community members can find more information and track the committee’s progress on the district’s official reconfiguration website.
