TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) — Authorities have identified the man who was shot and killed in a deputy-involved shooting after he allegedly moved toward law enforcement while carrying a sword during a domestic dispute.
According to the Pima Regional Critical Incident Team, Pima County Sheriff’s Department San Xavier District deputies responded to a domestic dispute call Kay Lynn Drive around 3:45 p.m. on Sept. 25.
PRCIT said when deputies arrived to the scene, they tried to speak with 35-year-old Joseph Arnold Vallombroso, who was armed with a sword and refused to cooperate with law enforcement, PRCIT said.
Deputies made several attempts to de-escalate the situation before Vallombroso allegedly walked towards authorities at a fast pace while ignoring commands, leading to a deputy-involved shooting, PRCIT said.
The 35-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. No deputies or community members were hurt.
The case remains under investigation.
