When news happens, Phoenix New Times is there

We won’t bury the lede: We’re about to ask you for money. But before you roll your eyes and click away, let us explain.

Phoenix New Times has given the Valley fearless, hard-hitting, boots-on-the-ground journalism for more than five decades — and we’ve never charged you a dime.

But we’re sure you’ve noticed that times are getting tight all over, and New Times is not immune.

We’re still going above and beyond to keep our readers informed on the topics they’re interested in. In 2026, we’ve reported on all aspects of Valley life. Staff Writer Morgan Fischer broke the horrifying news that a local political candidate was raped while repairing her campaign signs — a scoop that quickly became international news. Food Editor Tirion Boan traveled to Las Vegas to provide live updates on the Southwest’s first Michelin Awards, where several Valley restaurants were honored. I reported on how local creatives use art to protest ICE. Our annual Best of Phoenix issue celebrated more than 500 people, places and things around the city.

We could toot our own horn indefinitely, but we’d rather just give you the numbers. And the numbers… aren’t great. Though we’ve seen increases in social media revenue, we’re down in other crucial areas:

  • Print: accounts for 61% of our total revenue, and has declined 17% since 2023;
  • Website: accounts for 19% of total revenue, and has declined 4% since 2023;
  • Newsletters: account for 10% of total revenue, and has declined 21% since 2023.

Membership is a small but crucial part of our revenue, one that’s increased 137% since 2023. Our readers have been stepping up. And that’s where you come in.

We’re kicking off our year-end fundraising campaign. By Dec. 31, we’re aiming to raise $30,000 to fuel our work into 2027.

This is a bold goal for our newsroom. But we believe we’ll get there. Readers like you have been incredibly generous in supporting our work, and we’ve continued to pay you back in kind with aggressive, original reporting. Members also get access to unique private events such as a group trip to the Phoenix Bat Cave and a happy hour at Filthy Martini.

Our theme for this drive is “When news happens, Phoenix New Times is there.” Time and again, New Times has stepped up in times of change. We help our readers make sense of uncertainty and prepare for what’s ahead. We don’t know what 2027 will bring. But we know we can’t do it without you.

So — will you become a member today?
