Man arrested after a suspected arson at a Phoenix barber shop

PHOENIX — A man was arrested for allegedly setting fire to a barber shop at 40th Street and Bell Road in early February, according to court documents.

Authorities said Aldo Martinez Saenz is suspected of starting the fire in the early morning hours of Feb.5.

As authorities worked the scene for possible evidence, fire investigators located wooden matchsticks near the exterior door of the suite, court documents say.  No injuries were reported from the fire, the Phoenix Fire Department said.

Investigators, with help from a Chandler Fire Investigator and an accelerant detection canine, found accelerant scents throughout the suite, police said.

Court documents say that police used surveillance video to identify a Toyota Prius that had been allegedly rented by Saenz. With the help of license plate readers and the rental car company where Saenz rented the car, officials were able to locate the suspect and arrest him.

Saenz is facing one count of arson and was given a $100,000 cash bond, according to court documents.
