Nick Reiner, charged with killing his parents, could enter plea Monday in Los Angeles court

Nick Reiner faces two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, who were fatally stabbed in their home.

LOS ANGELES — Nick Reiner is scheduled to appear in a Los Angeles court on Monday morning for an arraignment and plea hearing.

Reiner, 32, is accused of killing his parents, 78-year-old Rob Reiner and 70-year-old Michele Singer Reiner, on Dec. 14 in their home in Brentwood, California.

The famed Hollywood couple, married more than 35 years, were fatally stabbed, according to autopsy reports. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, Nick reportedly fled the home after his parents were killed but was arrested several hours later.

Reiner was charged with two counts of murder and a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon.

If convicted of the murder charges, he faces death or life in state prison without the possibility of parole.

His arraignment and plea hearing is scheduled for 8 a.m. Pacific Time on Monday, Feb. 23. He is expected to plead not guilty, which is common for criminal defendants at this stage of the case, the Associated Press reports.

The hearing on Monday is a postponement date, after Nick Reiner’s high-profile defense attorney, Alan Jackson, removed himself from the case prior to the original arrangement. He is now being represented by Deputy Public Defender Kimberly Greene.

The night before the Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead, Nick and his parents attended a party at the home of comedian and former talk show host Conan O’Brien. Guests at the party shared multiple reports that Nick Reiner appeared agitated, out of sorts and “disruptive.”

The New York Times previously reported that was placed under a mental health conservatorship in 2020 through 2021. The outlet cited confirmation from a clerk at the Los Angeles Superior Court.

A decade ago, Nick Reiner publicly discussed his struggles with addiction and mental health after making a movie with his father, “Being Charlie,” that was very loosely based on their lives.

Rob Reiner was a prolific director whose work included some of the most memorable and endlessly watchable movies of the 1980s and ’90s. His credits included “This is Spinal Tap,” “Stand By Me,” “A Few Good Men,” and “When Harry Met Sally,” during whose production he met Michele Singer, a photographer, and married her soon after.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
