TEMPE, Ariz. – Three people are hospitalized following a shooting at a Tempe house party early Saturday morning.
What we know:
According to Tempe Police, while officers were responding to a call regarding a loud party, a shooting occurred near Mcclintock Drive and East Pebble Beach Drive at around 4:30 a.m. on Oct. 24.
Three people were hospitalized with gunshot wounds, with one person suffering minor injuries, and the other two with critical injuries.
No arrests have been made.
Neighbor Speaks Out:
“There’s college kids around, but it’s very family-oriented, like everybody’s close here,” neighbor Manuel Quijada said. “We woke up to sirens, spotlights in our backyard.I mean it gets a little concerning. I have five small children, so we’re not that far away.”
Witnesses React:
Witnesses who attended the party said there was some kind of argument between one of their friends who lived in the home and someone they didn’t know.
“The arguing happened in front. They went outside, and they just started shooting, and we all just kind of, like, dropped to the floor and ducked and tried to go in the room with the guy that was shot. Make sure he didn’t bleed out,” witness Laay said.
Tiece, who lives at the home, said his friend group didn’t know the shooters.
“There was a lot of random people that shouldn’t have been there. A lot of sh** that happened. My friend is in the hospital right now, so praying for him,” Tiece told FOX 10.
The witnesses said the victims are three of their friends — one woman and two men. They said the woman is expected to be OK, while the two men are in critical condition. One of the men is reportedly still unconscious in the ICU, according to the friends.
Dig deeper:
A neighbor who describes herself as a sort of mom to many young people at the party says the idea of someone opening fire there, in her community, angers her.
“You don’t expect stuff like this when you’re going to a party. You just want to go and have a good time and live your best life. And who thinks they’re going to get shot? That’s insane,” she said.
Trying to put a bunch of innocent people in harm’s way over the dumbest things. It makes no sense to me so. I hope they do get them,” Laay said.
What we don’t know:
Officers have not released information about the suspected shooter and the events leading up to the gunfire.
