Rain chances and cooler air

PHOENIX — A storm system is moving in and bringing wind, rain and cooler air to Arizona.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are still impacting areas along the Mogollon Rim and across northeastern Arizona this afternoon.

Here in the Valley, we’ll likely stay dry as we head into the evening but breezes are picking back up.

Gusts could top 25 mph until after sunset across the Phoenix metro area.

With winds mainly out of the west-southwest, smoke from the Hazen Fire burning near Buckeye will continue to impact the West Valley and parts of Phoenix.

This storm is also bringing a lot of cooler air with it, dropping temperatures nearly 20 degrees in parts of our state.

Phoenix hit 98 degrees on Sunday and has so far only made it to 80 this afternoon.

High pressure will start to build in behind this storm, sending temperatures soaring into the 90s by Thursday and into the triple digits over Mother’s Day weekend.

Next week is looking scorching as temperatures soar above 105 degrees in Phoenix!

On average, it doesn’t get that hot in Phoenix until the end of May. But, this year we’ve already hit 105 degrees three times in March, marking the earliest on record.

2026 Sky Harbor Official Rainfall to date: 0.32″ (-2.49″ from average)
