TUCSON, Ariz. — An 80-year-old motorcyclist died Friday night after striking a raised traffic barrier in midtown Tucson.
Officers from the Tucson Police Department’s Operations Division Midtown responded to the 2000 block of East Winsett Street at about 9:00 p.m. on September 4, 2026, following reports of a motorcycle collision. Tucson Fire Department personnel also responded to the scene and pronounced the motorcyclist deceased upon arrival.
Traffic detectives responded to the scene and continued the investigation into what caused the fatal crash. Roadway evidence analyzed by detectives indicated that the motorcyclist, identified as 80-year-old Terrance D. Yokofich, was traveling westbound on Winsett Street on his 2018 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
Investigators determined that Yokofich was traveling at a speed above the posted 25 mph limit when he struck a raised barrier traffic chicane. The impact caused Yokofich to lose control of the motorcycle and crash. Detectives determined that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
Members of Yokofich’s family were contacted and notified of his passing. According to police, speed and the loss of control after striking the raised traffic median are the known contributing factors in the collision. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
