TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – Tucson Fire crews rescued a person stranded in the Alamo Wash near Wilmot Road and 5th Street this evening after fast-moving floodwater left them trapped on a small section of the wash bank.
At 7:21 p.m., firefighters responded to a swift water rescue call. A caller reported the person was surrounded by floodwater and unable to escape.
Firefighters positioned crews downstream while another crew deployed a ground ladder to reach the individual. Because there was a 10-foot drop from street level to the wash bank, firefighters climbed down the ladder and secured the individual with a life vest and rescue ring.
The person was safely lifted out of the wash. Nine Tucson Fire units responded to the incident, and the individual was rescued without injury.
