TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – The Table Mountain Fire is transitioning back to local control as firefighting efforts wrap up.
The Arizona Southeast Zone Type 3 Incident Management Team will hand the fire back to the Coronado National Forest’s Catalina-Rincon Type 5 Organization on Monday at 6 a.m. Some firefighters from the Table Mountain Fire will remain in the area for additional initial attacks.
All firefighters are leaving the incident ready to respond to the next one. The team reported an outstanding safety record with no injuries despite working in extremely remote, rough and rugged terrain.
The fire is now in the cleanup and restoration phase. Firefighters on the mountain ensured they disposed of their waste properly and respected local wildlife within the Pusch Ridge Wilderness.
Once the final helicopter departs, the ecosystem will have the chance to rest and recover, facilitating natural regeneration. Remaining trash and supplies from the mountain will be transported by helicopter to the temporary helipad.
Crews will begin closing out the temporary helipad, demobilizing supply resources staged at Catalina State Park and demobilizing the Incident Command Post. Initial attack, area rehabilitation and demobilization are the objectives for the day.
The Arizona Southeast Zone Type 3 Incident Management Team expressed its appreciation to the communities and businesses of Tucson and the surrounding area for their support during the firefighting effort. There are no closures, restrictions or evacuations in effect.
StormTracker 4 meteorologists are forecasting clear skies through Monday with temperatures between 95 and 100 degrees. Westerly winds of 10 to 15 mph remain prevalent with gusts up to 22 mph and low humidity of 6 to 10 percent with poor overnight recoveries of approximately 20 percent.
