Thousands of tips flood in for Nancy Guthrie case | The Disappearance of Nancy Guthrie

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – The search for Nancy Guthrie continues as thousands of tips pour in from the public, both locally and from afar. The reward for information leading to her return now surpasses $1 million, with contributions from her family and others, including a notable donation from a man 1,800 miles away.

Inside the 88-CRIME office, operators are busy fielding calls related to the case. Michael Hupy, a personal injury lawyer from Wisconsin and president of the Milwaukee chapter of CrimeStoppers, has offered $100,000 of his own money to encourage those with information to come forward.

“We need that one person to come in with the right tip to solve the crime,” Hupy said.

Hupy explained his motivation, saying, “She’s an 84-year-old woman. She’s in ill-health, she needs prescription medication every day, she has a heart pacemaker and I wasn’t happy with the way the investigation was going.”

On February 24, Savannah Guthrie shared her family’s plea on Instagram, expressing the emotional toll of her mother’s disappearance.

“Worrying about her, fearing for her, aching for her and most of all, missing her,” Savannah said. The Guthrie family has offered a $1 million reward for information that could lead to Nancy’s recovery.

“If you’ve been waiting and haven’t been sure, let this be your sign to please come forward, tell what you know and help us bring our beloved Mom home. Please be the light in the dark,” Savannah said.

The community response has been overwhelming, with more than 25,000 tips reaching the FBI and thousands more directed to local authorities. The FBI Phoenix office stated, “Every tip is reviewed for credibility, relevance, and information that can be acted upon by law enforcement.”

In Southern Arizona, 88-CRIME has received nearly 2,600 tips, a number far exceeding their usual monthly volume.

“Typically, during the course of a month, our 88-Crime system will receive 200-250 calls about all matters. During the time of the investigation, we’ve received nearly 10 times that amount just for this one case alone,” said James Allerton, 88-CRIME program coordinator.

Back in Wisconsin, Hupy remains hopeful that a crucial tip will emerge.

“Money makes people talk. I’ve given $25, I’ve given $50,000 to solve the murders of small children and people come at money if there’s money available,” Hupy said.

The Guthrie family has also donated $500,000 to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, supporting their efforts to help families in similar situations.

Authorities emphasize the ongoing need for tips in the Guthrie case. Those with information are encouraged to reach out anonymously at tips.fbi.gov or through local tip lines like 88-CRIME.
