Tucson youth football team rallies around player fighting cancer | Top Stories

The Tucson Raiders are raising awareness for a GoFundMe for 13 year old Diego Campos’ recent cancer diagnosis, as well as his parents.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – A youth football team in the Old Pueblo is coming together to support one of their own in a challenging time.

13-year-old Diego Campos was recently diagnosed with bone cancer.

Campos plays Defensive End on the Tucson Raiders 14 and under team.

His mother is currently fighting thyroid cancer. At an earlier time, his dad was treated for testicular cancer.

Recently, Diego had surgery to remove a tumor.

His family has started a fundraiser that has surpassed more than $27,000 dollars.

The Tucson Raiders wanted to raise awareness about Diego’s fight before their game against Walden Grove Saturday night.

“Everything that’s happened to the family as a whole, with the mom being sick, the dad being sick and it’s kind of like one more thing,” team manager Corina Bacahui said. “We’ve all known the family, we’ve all known Diego and the siblings and everything. “It hurts because he’s one of us.”
