TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – The Tucson Police Department has identified the 56-year-old pedestrian who died after she were hit by a truck on Tuesday night. TPD said the woman was not in a crosswalk when the crash occurred, and the driver was impaired.
Griselda Josephine Houston, 56, was identified as the victim in the fatal pedestrian crash.
On Feb. 24 around 7:12 p.m., Operations Division East officers responded to the 6200 block of E. Broadway Blvd., near Wilmot Road, after reports of a crash involving a pedestrian.
Houston was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she was later pronounced dead. TPD said the driver of the 2007 Nissan Titan, a 65-year-old man, was not injured.
Witness interviews with the Traffic Collision Investigation Unit, along with roadway evidence, determined Houston was in the roadway, on the southside of Broadway Boulevard, attempting to cross. The 65-year-old driver had been traveling eastbound on the road when the truck hit Houston, who was not in a crosswalk, TPD said. The nearest crosswalk was around 380 feet east of the location where the crash took place.
The driver was impaired at the time of the crash and jaywalking was a major contributing factor, Tucson Police said.
No criminal charges or civil citations have been issued at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
“The investigation is focused on determining if the driver of the Titan’s impairment was a factor in the collision,” TPD said.
